Taxes
A Government memorandum issued in January 2010 proposes that the special tax on funds registered in Sweden be abolished – something that the Association has been demanding for a long time now. The Association believes that this change is absolutely vital if Swedish funds are to be able to participate in the common European fund market that is the aim of the UCITS Directive.
The Association rejected, however, a proposal for a new tax that would impact all Swedish unit holders of both those funds registered in Sweden and those registered abroad.
The Association believes that the tax on Swedish-registered funds should be abolished without replacing it with a new tax for all Swedes who have holdings in funds registered in Sweden or abroad. This approach would not only boost Sweden’s competitiveness, it would create job opportunities and generate tax revenue.
The Government has stated that a Bill we be put before Parliament during the spring of 2011.
