In 2020 the Canadian Securities Administrator banned commissions, or trailing fees, paid by investment fund managers to distributors that only execute orders without providing advice. This is very similar to the ban on inducements proposed by the EU-commission.
We invited Andy Mitchell, President and CEO of The Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC) and Arnie Hochman, the organisation's Vice-President, Policy and General Counsel to give a presentation on the Canadian market, the ban on commission and its effects on the market for savings in investments funds in Canada.
